>> greg: thank you. "fox news @ night." i love you, america. [cheers and applause greg: the bubbles are not coming from the fish. [♪] brian: welcome to "one nation," i'm brian kilmeade. what a lineup. we have the hottest comedian in the country. andy mccarthy talks about being a member of the brat pack and being a great dad. i'm thrilled the race for the 2024 nominations is off to such a strong start. but notice i said start. so many look at donald trump's
2:01 am
numbers soaring and think the race is over. how about the year 2000. fighting for the nomination texas governor george w. bush. out of nowhere maverick senator john mccain. people were surprised when the bush coronation turned into a cage match. >> if you don't take care of social security, my friend, that's all hat and no cattle. >> that's cute. they are always cutest when they are true. >> it's not true. brian: bush would get the nomination and face al gore. it was not a tough battle. bradley would not win a primary. so much for the so-called
2:02 am
experts. who could forget 2004. howard dean led john edwards, richard gephardt and john kerry in the polls. people would love howard dean but he finished almost as fast as he rose with the dean scream in california. >> we are going back to washington, d.c. to take back the white house. brian: former new york mayor rudy giuliani was leading in those polls. governor mike huckabee stole into prominence from behind. remember tv start fred thompson. they were begging for him to get in. but mccain would be the on one to bounce back when the sum he supported in iraq was a success. no candidate should be dancing in the end zone before a debate
2:03 am
or primary. and hillary clinton for senator obama. >> not too long ago my opponent made a prediction. he said i would probably win pennsylvania and he would win north carolina and indiana would be the tie breaker. tonight we have come from behind, we have broken the tie. and thanks to you it's full speed on to the white house. brian: the former first lady led the freshman senator in illinois by 1259 points in may, 2007. obama had a thin resume but a ton of talent and a lot of confidence. he got the keynote spot for the dnc when john kerry got the
2:04 am
nomination. >> it's unusual for them to select somebody who doesn't hold national office and my wife said don't screw up. hillary clinton won new hampshire by 2. >> because of victories in california, washington, oregon and hawaii, cbs projects senator barack obama of illinois will be the next president of the united states. >> this is the fastest rise to the presidency in 100 years. brian: if any trump supporter feels a double digit lead is safe. all they have to do is keep their confidence in check. in 2016, jeb bush led scott walker by 2 points, marco rubio
2:05 am
by 4 and ted cruz by 7. he hadn't even come down the escalator yet. joe biden who was anemic in iowa, and pathetic in new hampshire. remember, trump fans, know what the polls say and understand what the calendar reads. it's still may. somebody who didn't need that history lesson, somebody who knew this stuff by heart and could add another chapter to it was kellyanne conway. during that time she was either here on the set or working one of the campaigns. is it getting late early? >> it's late early for the following reason. we never had a former president running for office again. and we haven't had a president and vice president like
2:06 am
biden-harris so unpopular on every core issue. the border, ukraine, crime, inflation, education, they are under water. and joe biden's personal attributes are not matching up to a good reelection campaign. but i love competition. i think competition makes the party stronger and will make the eventual nominee more robust and ready for biden. desantis will have to announce and he will have to define himself and people will learn about his record in florida. i think none of the analogies apply here. she only lived in the white house but was never president. brian: when people say it's donald trump's to lose, can you say that? >> i think that's fair.
2:07 am
the challenge for all the people running against trump. which trump voters from the past can you claim as your own. you have to dip into the millions to do that. mike pence won 70 million voters in a general election. so that ain't nothing. and he starts out with a base of support, people are saying i'm going to look past that. when i want to get somebody to do the job i want the person who has already done the job. he will be the person who's put upon in these debates. everybody should be trying to take out trump. brian: do you think he should debate? >> he needs to debate. debates against hillary helped him win the presidency. brian: desantis is in second place. is it possible to beat donald
2:08 am
trump and also win over his voters or do you beat trump and lose the trump supporters. >> this is politics so anything is possible. i think if you beat donald trump in the primary, trump loves this country above everything else, then he will support who the nominee is. but he believes he will be the nominee. i have got my eyes on the prize. joe biden has the job. he doesn't deserve the job and he's not good at the job. but the more republicans fight with each other, they should have a competition and brawl on the issues. but the more we focus on the republican primaries we are taking our eyeo the prize of how .we defeat a sitting president. brian: the super pacs and donald
2:09 am
trump team are keeping their eye on desantis. do you see a scenario where nikki haley and vivek ramaswamy become factors? mike pence? >> they could. if you don't want donald trump to be the nominee, you either have to run against him take him out or you don't run at all. the more republicans who run for the nomination the more likely it is president trump will get that nomination. we have gone from 7 to 17 winner-take-all states. he won all 50 electoral votes. in south carolina with winner-take-all, you had rubio and cruz split 50% of the vote.
2:10 am
winner-take-all helps trump. if you don't want him to be the nominee you have to take him out on your own and keep him out of the competition. brian: the candidates are so good and so talented and donald trump is so unique. car makers are canceling am radio. i call it censoring conservatives because they dominate a.m. radio. hugh hewitt will be joining me. andrew mccarthy takes us back to the brat pack and shares his favorite moments from the cult classics. >> i believed in you. i just didn't believe in me. >> i love you.

anymore. >> i think car makers want to do away with the interference that come between the electric battery and the a.m. bands. they are telling consumers you have to choose between us and the a.m. band. but even if they don't, the congress is going to. the congress has a lot invested in a.m. radio. rural america depends upon a.m. radio. baseball depends upon it. they kicked over the hide here. and a lot of people are mad at them, and these car companies are telling consumers we want hundreds of thousands of dollars in subsidy but you can't have your a.m. radio and that's not going to fly. brian: obama said rush limbaugh made him public enemy number one
